Kindness. If you’re lucky and had a good upbringing, you’d have learnt the value of kindness. If life has been a hard grind, then you, in turn, learn to be hard to others.
The point of this post is not to say that you are not kind. It is to say that kindness matters, and as a human being, you have an infinite capacity for kindness.
You are happy
Every good thing that you do for the world, in this case, an act of kindness, you get something in return. When you bestow goodness upon others, you feel good too..
Have you ever, knowingly, acted unkind and selfish? It can weigh on your soul and lead to unhappiness. However, if you are kind to others, there’s no guilt weighing you down. Furthermore, you are happy that you did a good thing.
Be kind to those around you because it brings happiness to yourself.
Make other people’s life easier
At Elevate Church, each of us wants to have a positive impact on the world. You look around and realize there is so much wrong with the world and you wish to change it for the better. As an individual, changing the world for the better is a difficult task. However, what you can do is ensure that you are kind to the people around you.
Whether you’re among family, friends, work colleagues, or even strangers on the street, be kind to everyone you come across. Through acts of kindness, you simply make the lives of those around you easier. You never know what problems a friend or a work colleague may have and furthermore, you may not even be able to help. However, what you can do is be kind. By doing so, you make the other person’s life easier.
The kindness is passed forward
Most often, a person is hard hearted, selfish and unkind because she had a tough day. Someone, perhaps a work colleague, was unkind to her. In turn, she will be unkind to the others around her.
A simple act of kindness from you can break this cycle and introduce kindness in her life. So, instead of being unkind to others, she will be kind to them..
When you are kind to those around you, that kindness is passed forward.
Jesus taught kindness
Jesus primarily taught us to love each other, but his second most valuable teaching was – kindness.
“Love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.” – Luke 6:35.
Jesus’s life is rich with stories of kindness.
Zacchaeus, a tax collector, wanted to see Jesus. Since he was short, he climbed a tree and waited to get a glimpse of Jesus. As Jesus was passing by, Jesus called out to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” This act of kindness from Jesus transformed Zacchaeus and the tax collector said, “Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”
Kindness matters to you and to everyone around you. By being kind, you live a more fulfilling and satisfying life. If you feel the need to be among kind people, then don’t hesitate to drop by the Elevate Church community.
